Some things never change12/3/2023 “ You said some things never change, but since then, everything’s done nothing but change.” How do the characters cope with that? How does their love for each other hold up in the face of that? The movie revolves around this theme and the purpose of STNC is to lay the foundation for that. The characters’ relationships change, their understanding of the past changes, their understanding of themselves and each other and the roles they fill changes. Change is literally the central theme of the entire narrative. It lays out the main themes of the movie: Jen Lee has said that where Frozen is a story about love through the lens of fear, Frozen 2 is about love through the lens of change. In a musical, songs are used to set a point in the story and that’s what STNC is doing here: marking the point before everything does change. Their lives have changed, they’ve grown closer, and it’s important to establish that dynamic early on. It estabishes the characters as they are now: they have aged three years since we last saw them. It’s definitely a light-hearted, fun song but to call it unnecessary makes no sense at all. So, I've heard some people say that this song is corny or unnecessary and I just wanted to talk about why I think that's not the case.
